Where Should You Go for Care?

Comparing the costs: Primary Doc vs Urgent Care vs Emergency Room

We know, of course, that preventive care can be the key to saving you time, money, and health in the long run. With most health plans, you can make an appointment with your primary care physician to take advantage of your free preventive health checkups.

Save the emergency room for true emergencies. Of course, if a severe issue comes up, head to the ER or call 911. But, for smaller issues, start by calling your doctor or visiting an urgent care center.

With an urgent care center, you’ll save money and avoid a long wait, because ERs see the most critical patients first.

So, to recap, for preventive screenings and checkups, make an appointment with your primary care physician. If you need to see a doctor soon but it’s not an emergency, use an urgent care facility. Only go to the emergency room for true emergencies if you're trying to save money.
