It's Flu Season

Experts say flu season could be rough this year

How can you prevent getting the flu?

  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If you're sick, limit contact with others as much as possible.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated.
  • Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone — without the need to use a fever-reducing medicine — except to get medical care or other necessities.
  • The CDC recommends all people 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year with rare exception and it's particularly important for people who are at higher risk of developing serious flu complications and those working in healthcare.

What is a flu vaccine?
Influenza vaccines (often called “flu shots”) are vaccines that protect against the four influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. Most flu vaccines are “flu shots” given with a needle, usually in the arm, but there also is a nasal spray flu vaccine.

If you have questions about which vaccine is best for you, talk to your doctor or other healthcare professional.
