Paid time off, or PTO, gives employees the opportunity to combine vacation, sick and personal time into a bank of days to use at their discretion. 

 

Unlike more traditional plans, PTO does not separate between “sick days” and “vacation days.” PTO is a bank of hours that employees can use for those purposes, as well as others.  

 

Employers credit hours to an employee each pay period. PTO is generally accrued or earned from work throughout the year. And, the longer you stay with ABC Company, the more time you accrue.

 

Your employer’s PTO policy will explain the total annual amount of paid time off you can accrue each year and how the time is prorated and credited to your PTO bank.
