Employee Benefits Resource Center
Welcome to the City of Milwaukee's Employee Benefits Resource Center!

The site highlights the many benefits available to you as a valued City employee. The City of Milwaukee provides a comprehensive and competitive benefits package centered on meeting the needs of you and your family. The City's benefits are designed to give you choices along with tools and resources to help you select the right benfits and use those benefits effectively throughout the year.

To make changes to 2024 benefits, employees have three different options during open enrollment (October 30 - November 13). Employees can use the City's self-service system, call DER Benefits or meet with a dedicated Benefits Counselor. Employees can only enroll in the new voluntary benefits: Critical Illness, Accident and/or Short-Term Disability Insurance through a telephonic consultation with a Benefit Counselor. Employees should bring their self-service login and password to their appointment. Assistance can be provided for self-service if needed.

Benefit Counselors are available to help employees learn about and enroll in the City's various benefit plans. Visit our benefits portal to schedule a telephonic appointment with a Benefit Counselor. Benefit Counselors are able to enroll and provide information to employees on the following plans:

  • Health

  • Dental

  • Vision

  • Flexible Spending

  • Life Insurance

  • Long-Term Disability
  • Voluntary Benefits (Accident, Critical Illness, and Short-Term Disability insurance)

They only way to enroll in the Voluntary Benefits is through the Benefit Counselors.  Employees will not have another opportunity to enroll in these benefits until the fall open enrollment period.

New Hire Benefit Information

All new employees to the City of Milwaukee have a thirty-day waiting period for health, dental, vision and voluntary benefits and benefit enrollments must be completed within this time frame. Employees will receive a Self-Service identification number to make benefit elections, sign up for direct deposit and view their paychecks. If employees do not receive a self-service ID within 7-10 days of their start date, contact the benefits team. New employees have three options for enrolling in benefits including using Self-Service, meeting with a Benefit Counselor or completing an enrollment form and returning it to DER Benefits. The only way to enroll in voluntary benefits is through the Benefit Counselors.
