Men’s Health Awareness Month

Men: Be aware, be prepared, be healthy

June is Men’s Health Awareness Month. It's a time for men to evaluate and prioritize their health.

Men are more likely than women to die from heart disease, cancer, suicide and chronic lower-respiratory diseases. They're also less likely than women to visit a doctor or get screened for cancer.

Some of the major problems that affect men’s health include:

  • Heart disease and cancer: These are two leading causes of death for American men
  • Mental health: Men are less likely than women to seek mental health treatment due to the perceived stigma
  • Sexual health: A study found that one-in-four young men don't believe they need sexual education or information about their reproductive system because they think it's “women's business”
  • Suicide: Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young men in America

ABC encourages all men to take their health seriously by getting regular checkups and screenings, eating healthy and exercising regularly.
