Manor Independent School District is committed to offering a variety of medical benefits that provide generous coverage for both employees and their covered dependents. We are offering three medical plans, administered though BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, to fit your budget and needs.
An HMO usually offers lower monthly premiums than other types of insurance plans. They also tend to have lower copays and coinsurance, which helps make them more affordable.
With this plan you are required to choose a Primary Care Provider (PCP) and stay within a network of providers, urgent cares, and hospitals to receive coverage under the plan. You must receive referrals from your PCP before you visit a specialist or are admitted to a hospital, except in a qualifying emergency. There is also no out-of-network coverage under an HMO.
Enrolling in an HMO can be a great option to help minimize your healthcare costs so long as you stay within the network.
PPO plans provide more flexibiity when picking a doctor or hospital.
The PPO plan offers deductibles and require copays when receiving treatment. If you are enrolled in the PPO plan you can choose to contribute to a tax-advantaged health care flexible spending account to help pay for health care expenses not covered by your plan.
With the PPO medical plan, you have the choice of two benefit tiers: Plan providers (in-network) and non-plan providers (out-of-network). The PPO option offers a larger network of providers and specialists to choose from. Unlike an HMO, you do not need to designate a Primary Care Provider (PCP) and you do not need to obtain a referral to see a specialist.
The High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) offers lower monthly premiums and higher deductibles, making it an ideal choice for those who want to save on regular healthcare costs and are prepared for higher out-of-pocket expenses when receiving treatment.
Enrollees can contribute to a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for qualified medical expenses, with unused funds rolling over year to year. Many preventive services are covered at no cost before the deductible is met, and the plan provides the flexibility to choose any doctor or hospital, with potential savings for in-network services.

While no one likes to think about it, planning for your family’s financial security in the event of sickness, serious injury, or death is one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones.
Basic Life Insurance is provided by Manor ISD to all employees at no cost to you. Enrollment in this benefit is automatic.
Employees receive $20,000.
You can purchase additional Life coverage beyond what Manor ISD provides through The Standard. They guarantee coverage during your initial enrollment period, which means you can't be turned down for coverage based on medical history.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance is a valuable benefit that provides financial support in the event of a severe injury or accidental death. This coverage pays a benefit to you or your beneficiaries if you suffer a covered accident that results in the loss of life, limb, sight, speech, or hearing. AD&D insurance is designed to supplement life insurance and disability insurance by covering incidents that occur due to accidents, offering an additional layer of financial protection for you and your loved ones.
This coverage can help you and your family with life-altering events including: medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and other expenses that arise from accidental injuries, as well as provide financial security in the unfortunate event of an accidental death.
Disability plans are insurance policies that provide coverage for employees in the event they become disabled due to illness or injury. These plans combine short-term and long-term disability coverage into one policy. The coverage pays a portion of your earnings if you cannot work due to a disabling condition.
Whole life insurance offers peace of mind by ensuring financial protection for loved ones while also potentially accumulating tax-deferred savings over the years. It's designed to provide long-term security and financial stability for policyholders and their beneficiaries
This type of life insurance provides coverage for your entire life as long as premiums are paid. Unlike term life insurance, which covers you for a specific period, whole life insurance builds cash value over time, acting as both insurance and an investment vehicle. Premiums typically remain fixed throughout the policy's duration, offering stability and predictability in financial planning. The policyholder can borrow against the cash value or withdraw it, though withdrawals can affect the death benefit.

Manor Independent School District recognizes how important it is to invest in your future, which is why we provide an employer match on our 401(k) retirement plan.
A 403(b) plan also known as a tax sheltered annuity plan is a retirement plan for certain employees of public schools and tax exempt organizations, including teachers, school administrators, professors, government employees, nurses, doctors, church employees, and librarians. It's very similar to the way a 401(k) plan works, but administrative costs for a 403(b) plan are generally lower.
Advantages of a 403(b) include faster vesting of funds and the ability to make catch up contributions, allowing employees over 50 to make additional contributions over the standard annual limits that apply to 401(k)s.
A 457(b) is often thought of as a supplemental savings plan as many employees covered under a 457(b) plan are also covered under a defined benefit pension plan or another retirement plan (ie, 403(b) plan).
457(b) plans let you make pre-tax contributions, allowing you to defer income taxes now, and helping to lower your current income tax bill. Later, when you withdraw from the plan, you pay taxes on the amount of the withdrawal at your marginal tax rate. Getting a tax break now may be an advantage, especially if you end up in a lower tax bracket during retirement.

While no one likes to think about it, planning for your family’s financial security in the event of sickness, serious injury, or death is one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones.
The Standard Accident Insurance Protection Plan can pay for expenses resulting from a covered accident or accidental death and dismemberment not covered by your medical plan.
This benefit can complement your medical and disability insurance to help you pay for unexpected or common costs such as your medical deductible, coinsurance, emergency room visits, physician office visits and hospital charges. This coverage is available to purchase for yourself and dependents.
Accident insurance is an extra layer of protection and an affordable way to supplement the additional expenses associated with your injuries, treatments and services.
While major medical insurance may pay for a good portion of the costs associated with an illness, there are lots of expenses that are just not covered — from deductibles and copays to living expenses. With a critical illness policy, you can rest assured you will be protected from extreme financial burdens in the event of severe illness or injury.
The voluntary critical illness coverage is designed to help offset the financial effects of a catastrophic illness with a lump sum benefit if you are diagnosed with a qualified serious illness.
Critical illness insurance coverage can help pay for expenses such as rent, mortgage or other daily living expenses, as well as health-related expenses not covered by major medical insurance.
If you are admitted to a hospital, it doesn’t take long for the out-of-pocket costs to add up. Manor Independent School District’s Hospital Indemnity Insurance through The Hartford pays benefits directly to you if you are admitted into a hospital for care or childbirth. Benefits are paid even if you have other coverage.
You receive a benefit as soon as you are admitted and then an additional benefit based on the number of days you are confined to the hospital. The benefit increases if you are admitted and confined to an intensive care unit. The following are covered: first-day hospital confinement, daily hospital confinement, daily Intensive Care Unit confinement, and hospital observation/short stay.
Cancer Care Insurance coverage is available through Manor Independent School District to provide you with additional income in the event of a cancer diagnosis. This type of supplemental insurance can help protect you and your family from the high cost of cancer treatment, care, medications, loss of job, loss of spouse’s income or missing time from work to take care of diagnosed cancer with children.
Most health insurance plans only cover direct medical expenses associated with treatment, and those costs are paid after deductible limits are reached. Through Manor Independent School District’s Cancer Care Insurance, cash benefits are paid directly to you regardless of any other medical insurance coverage you may have.
LegalShield is an online legal service company thay provides affordable legal services through a network of lawyers. Manor Independent School District is providing both an HSA and FSA to help employees budget and save for qualified medical expenses incurred over the course of the plan year.
A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-free account that you can use to pay for current and future medical expenses.
If you're enrolled in a consumer-driven High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP with HSA), you're eligible to contribute on a pre-tax basis to an HSA. You can use these funds to cover medical, dental and vision expenses.
Money you don't spend rolls over from year to year. So, if you change jobs, switch to another medical plan or even retire, your HSA and the money in it is still yours to keep. You can choose to save it for eligible healthcare expenses tax-free in retirement.
A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA) is a pre-tax benefit account that allows you to set aside money to pay for eligible dependent care expenses. These expenses can include childcare, adult daycare, preschool, summer day camp, and before or after school programs. The purpose of a DCFSA is to help you and your spouse work, look for work, or attend school full-time while still being able to care for your dependents.
For 2025, the limit is $5,000 for single filers and couples filing jointly, and $2,500 for married couples filing separately. Any contributions that exceed the limit are treated as taxable income. You can't change your contribution amount for the year unless you experience a qualifying event, such as a change in your marital status, employment status, or the number of dependents you have.

Telehealth — sometimes called telemedicine or Virtual Care — lets your health care provider care for you without an in-person office visit. It is primarily offered online with internet access on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
The great thing about telehealth visits is they allow you to seek medical care from the comfort of your own home and for a substantially lower cost than going to the emergency room or urgent care for non-urgent needs. Keep in mind, telehealth is not a perfect fit for everyone or every medical condition. Make sure you discuss any disadvantages or risks with your healthcare provider.
You can have a virtual doctor visit with MDLive - even if you don't have insurance. The cost for each visit will be displayed before you schedule, and while it may be higher than an insurance copay, it could still be less expensive than in-person care options.
